The “c-Si Solar cells” group of our “Sustainable Energy” Business Unit based in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, is currently looking for a: Senior R&D Engineer in development of high efficiency crystalline silicon solar cells.

Your mission

You will be to contribute to the acquisition and the technical execution of cutting-edge R&D and industrial projects in the field of crystalline silicon solar cells with a special emphasis on the development of sustainable materials. This encompasses (i) the acquisition, the technological supervision, and the reporting of public-funded and industrial national and international research projects in the field of crystalline silicon solar cells, and the coordination of the staff working on these projects (ii) the development of next-generation crystalline silicon solar cells (TOPCon, HeteroJunction), their integration into products, and a long-term technological vision for such devices.$

 

Your responsabilities 

  • Development of (back-contacted) TOPCon solar cells with sputtered polysilicon contacts (process flow, materials, functional layers), their analysis and long-term strategy
  • Contribute to unveil the root causes of the degradation mechanisms of HeteroJunction devices (and possibly TOPCon) under UV light and propose mitigation methods
  • Contribute to the development of copper-based metallization for HeteroJunction and TOPCon solar cells and assess their long-term reliability and underlying degradation phenomena
  • Participate to the overall visibility of the crystalline silicon solar cells team by disseminating the scientific results at conferences, trade shows, and in peer-reviewed papers
  • Contribute to the project acquisition for the team (public-funded projects and industrial mandates), their technical coordination, and reporting to the funding bodies
  • Participate to the long-term technological vision of the team

 

Your profile 

Know-how

  • PhD in optoelectronics, microtechnology or similar fields
  • 5+ years experience in crystalline silicon solar cells development and analysis, ideally TOPCon and HeteroJunction
  • Proven track record of peer-reviewed publications in photovoltaics and oral presentations at international conferences
  • Proven experience in the acquisition and coordination of national and international research projects (SNF, SFOE, Horizon Europe, etc.
  • Proven experience in working in clean-room environment
  • In-depth expertise in vaccum-based processes for thin film deposition for photovoltaic devices (chemical vapor deposition, physical vapor deposition, atomic layer deposition, etc.)
  • In-depth expertise in TOPCon and HeteroJunction solar cells functioning, their process flow and related characterization tools
  • Creation of consortia for national and international project proposals, acquisition and overall management of research projects
  • Languages: excellent communication skills in scientific English (both written and orally), French and German are a plus

  • Resourceful and proactive, able to jump from one task to another in an efficient way
  • Versatile and agile for being able to handle changes in the dynamic environment of R&D for renewable energy
  • Ability to act as a mentor and to provide daily guidance to technicians and/or junior engineers
