The “Digital Energy Solutions” group of our “Sustainable Energy” Business Unit based in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, is currently looking for a:

Your mission

The mission of the power system digitalization researcher is to deliver high-impact research and innovation activities around smart grids. The successful candidate will contribute expertise on the components and the operations of the power system throughout the lifecycle of projects. Possible examples include: to identify failure or degradation modes on power system components and how they show in instrumentation data; to advise power companies on data-driven solutions to improve the management of their assets and their processes; to build and run models of power systems; and to develop micro-services for energy communities, congestion management, or power trading, that are compatible with industry standards and good practices.

 

Your responsibilities

  • Serve as point of reference for power systems by:
    • Maintaining and communicating a good understanding of the state of the art and open challenges in the field, and
    • Providing guidance and support to others in the group as needed
  • Conceptualize solutions based on data science for applications in the power system (e.g., asset management, planning, real-time control)
  • Generate innovative solutions to technical challenges, as evidenced through patents and licensed software
  • Collaborate with colleagues within the group, the wider CSEM, and external partners and clients
  • Report both internally and externally through oral presentations, memos, technical reports and scientific papers
  • Organise their own time to ensure quality and timely delivery of results
  • Lead projects and work packages of medium management complexity
  • Actively contribute to project acquisition and proposal writing
  • Supervise interns as needed

 

Your profile

Know-how

  • MSc/PhD in Engineering and at least 5 years of practical experience
  • Good knowledge of the physics and operations of power networks.
  • Good knowledge of regulatory frameworks in Europe. Specific knowledge of Swiss regulations is a plus.
  • Knowledge of applicable standards. Experience with the application of relevant cybersecurity standards is a plus.
  • Minimum level of education: master. A PhD is a plus.
  • Five years of experience in at least one of the following industries is desired: network operators, power producers and aggregators, regulators, system integrators, equipment and software suppliers, consultancies
  • Ability to define and run power flow simulations. Experience with Digsilent PowerFactory is a plus
  • Ability to write software code in common languages (e.g., Python, Java, C++).
  • Ability to break down complex problems into tasks and to set verifiable targets.
  • Ability to estimate time and efforts for one’s tasks.

 

Interpersonal skills

  • Good writing and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work across disciplines.
  • Ability to work in dynamic project teams.
  • Fluency in English and working knowledge of French. Capabilities in German or Italian are a plus.
