The Industrial Inspection group, based in Alpnach, develops intelligent algorithms and systems for industrial inspection, automation and robotics. Our activities cover the full innovation chain, ranging from applied research and proof-of-concept development to the implementation and deployment of industrial solutions for national and international customers.
Your mission
As an R&D Engineer, your mission is to develop and implement state-of-the-art algorithms and AI-based software systems for industrial applications. You will contribute to machine learning, deep learning, computer vision and agentic AI solutions for inspection, robotics and automation. Working in multidisciplinary teams, you will transform innovative concepts into robust prototypes and industrial solutions that create measurable value for our partners.
Your responsibilities
- Design, develop and validate machine learning, deep learning and data-driven algorithms for industrial inspection, robotics and automation applications.
- Design, train and optimize modern neural network architectures for industrial use cases.
- Develop computer vision systems using 2D and 3D sensor data for tasks such as detection, segmentation, classification, anomaly detection, tracking and pose estimation.
- Design, implement and evaluate agentic AI systems using large language models, retrieval mechanisms, tools and automated workflows for industrial applications.
- Develop robust software applications, prototypes and demonstrators using Python and, where appropriate, C#.
- Build data acquisition, preparation, processing and evaluation pipelines for AI-based systems.
- Contribute to the integration of AI solutions into robotic platforms, automation systems and industrial software environments.
- Participate in project phases from concept development and feasibility studies through implementation, testing, validation and deployment.
- Design and execute experiments, evaluate performance and document results in a structured and reproducible manner.
- Contribute technical expertise to customer discussions, workshops, demonstrations and project proposals.
- Continuously monitor relevant state-of-the-art developments and transfer promising methods into applied industrial projects.
Your profile
- Master's degree, in Computer Science, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
- Up to four years of relevant professional experience in machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, robotics, automation or software engineering.
- Strong academic foundation in algorithm development, machine learning and data-driven systems.
Know-how
- Strong programming skills in Python.
- Good understanding of professional software development practices and Git-based development workflows.
- Practical experience with modern deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch.
- Strong understanding of machine learning, deep learning, neural network design and data-driven algorithm development.
- Fluent in modern AI technologies, including large language models (LLMs), agentic AI systems, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), tool-integrated workflows and AI-assisted software development.
- Ability to evaluate, design and implement AI-driven solutions using classical algorithms, machine learning methods and modern foundation models.
- Knowledge of computer vision fundamentals and practical image processing using OpenCV.
- Experience developing, training, testing and evaluating data-driven algorithms.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to independently implement, validate and document software solutions from concept to prototype.
