Your mission
We are Visienco, a dynamic biotech start-up emerging from the Swiss research center CSEM. Our mission is to revolutionize drug development by using organoids as an alternative to animal testing. We are at the forefront of innovation, combining cutting-edge technology with a passion for creating impactful solutions. We are seeking a motivated Intern to join our multidisciplinary team. In this role, you will bridge laboratory environment, data infrastructure engineering, and software development by supporting both experimental workflows and computational infrastructure. You will contribute to designing and implementing data infrastructure for imaging experiments, while also gaining hands-on experience with laboratory experiments such as pipetting and dataset acquisition.
This internship is ideal for a student or early-career researcher interested in combining software engineering with laboratory experimentation and data visualization to accelerate life science discovery.
Your responsibilities
We are looking for an intern to support us in:
- Design and implement a database schema to store imaging and experiment results.
- Develop a backend service to process, aggregate, and expose imaging data via APIs.
- Build a user-friendly frontend interface to visualize summarized results and key metrics.
- Perform imaging and pipetting experiments, acquire datasets.
Your profile
Requirements
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
- Strong programming skills in Python
- Familiarity with databases (SQL or NoSQL).
- Understanding of RESTful APIs or GraphQL.
- Ability to quickly learn domain-specific concepts and collaborate across disciplines.
- Experience in planning and executing laboratory experiments
Nice-to-have
- Programming skills in JavaScript/TypeScript, or similar of advantage
- Experience with web frameworks (e.g., React, Next.js, or Angular) and backend frameworks (e.g., FastAPI, Django, Node.js, or Express).
- Experience with data visualization libraries (e.g., D3.js, Plotly, Chart.js).
- Exposure to scientific imaging data or life sciences applications.
- Interpersonal skills
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
