Senior R&D Engineer in Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs) (F/M/D) 100%

The “Laser Tech.” Group of our “Instrumentation” Business Unit, based in Neuchâtel, Switzerland is looking for a business-savvy, inspiring and communicative Senior R&D Engineer.

Your mission

As a Senior Engineer with extensive experience in PIC design, integration and test as well as project management and acquisition, you will be at the core of exciting developments with applications in telecommunication, sensing and quantum technologies. You will have strong interactions with photonic foundries and both academic and industrial partners and play a key role in the development of successful PIC systems.

Your responsibilities

• Project management to ensure project objectives
• Contribution to project acquisitions, grant applications and offers
• Participation in several R&D projects in parallel
• Design and simulation of PIC building blocks and PIC systems based on different PIC platforms
• PIC system integration and characterization
• Promotion and reinforcement of CSEM’s position through patents, publications, and presentations at conferences.

Your profile

Know-how

• 5-10 years of experience in design on one or more of the most common PIC platforms (Si, SiN, InP, LNOI,…)
• Strong skills in mask design, python coding and in software like Lumerical, Luceda, Comsol, VPI Photonics or similar
• Experience in PIC testing including optical and radiofrequency laboratory equipment
• Track record in PIC systems realization including notions of electronics, RF and packaging
• Hands-on in laboratory work
• Experience in one or more PIC application fields is a strong asset
• Documentation of your work and technical writing
• Professional proficiency in English (oral and written) and French, German is a plus
• Track record (publications, patents) in PIC systems.
