Facing the challenges of our time

Help us grow and be more impactful!

The internship duration is from 3 to 6 months starting from the first quarter of 2026.

The AI for Life Sciences group is based in Allschwil.

Your mission

As an intern in the AI for Life Sciences group, you will support activities within CSEM’s Life Science Technologies area, with a particular focus on our internal image analysis platform. Particularly, you will contribute to developing an end-to-end microscopy image analysis demonstrator that captures single-cell images, processes them using our in-house methods, and generates interactive visualizations of the results.

To strengthen our activities, we are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a strong background in machine learning who is eager to apply their skills to translational biomedical problems.

Your responsibilities

Over the course of the project, you will integrate state-of-the-art machine learning methods into a pipeline for microscopy image analysis. Relevant techniques include:

  • Self-supervised representation learning (e.g., DINOv2/v3)
  • Cell tracking and segmentation (e.g., DeepSort, Cellpose-SAM)
  • Vision–language models (e.g., MedGemma, CONCH)

While the main focus is on algorithm development, the role will also involve aspects of hardware integration, sample handling, and measurement, in close collaboration with our wet-lab and engineering teams. You will work under the guidance of a senior machine learning engineer and receive support from experienced data scientists and biosystems engineers throughout the project.
