We are looking for a business-savvy, inspiring and communicative Chief Technology Officer in Neuchâtel.

Your mission

As our CTO, you will be our first technology go-to person and will play a key role in setting the company’s strategic direction, set and oversee our overall applied research roadmap, and helping steer our technology resources in the fields of digital technologies, precision manufacturing and sustainable energy.

 

Your responsabilities

Shape our technology vision and strategy

  • Develop and articulate a coherent technology vision, outlining the key technologies that support CSEM's overall objectives and align with our research goals and market demands​
  • Meet CTOs of other companies and institutions to understand current and future technological needs​
  • Stay informed about trends and emerging technologies (tech radar). Assess EU roadmaps and evolutions in other RTOs. Assess potential impact of new tech trends on CSEM business and research. Make propositions in terms of directions and how we need to evolve​
  • Support our Business Development teams in understanding & communicating trends and position us in relation to them​
  • Interact extensively with our Business Unit leaders and Focus Area Managers, understanding and consulting the tech roadmap of the different Business Units​
  • Help manage our research program (what, why, priorities and validations) ​
  • Proactively visit and spend time with our R&D teams to better understand their needs, support and foster internal collaborations​

 

Communicate effectively to reinforce our impact and credibility

  • Communicate convincingly our strategies, positioning and roadmaps to stakeholders, including employees, academic partners, customers, politicians and the media​
  • Represent the organization’s technological capabilities and present our capabilities in public forums, exhibitions, conferences, and industry groups. Synchronize with BUs to define their respective coverage​
  • Support Business Units acquiring strategic customers: presenting the big picture, helping convince, demonstrate credibility​
  • Help to convince public funding partners of the excellence of CSEM research program and tech transfer impact. Participate to external funding efforts​
  • Make sure that employees have access to information about what is happening regarding research and innovation at CSEM. Propose lightweight structure to coordinate activities and share information

 

 Strengthen collaborations, partnerships and dissemination

  • Foster partnerships with the academic domain, industry, other RTOs and RTO networks (HTA, EARTO)​
  • Coordinate research-related activities, in particular our external Scientific Advisory Board and our internal Research Committee and Focus Areas. Lead internal cross-functional programs and internal exchange forums. Improve dissemination and reach of our research activities through our PhD club​

 

Promote research ethics and sustainability

  • Ensure that our research and publication activities follow standards of academic ethics
  • Promote an ethical use of technology across the organization, respecting privacy, and promoting sustainability​
  • Address social and ethical implications of technological developments, ensuring responsible research and innovation​

Your profile

  • Successful experience as CTO (Chief Technology Officer) or CSO (Chief Scientific Officer) for at least 5 years
  • Superior level of education (PhD) with usually 10+ years of successful professional experience, ideally in a high-level industrial or research environment
  • Good knowledge of the academic world
  • Strong industrial experience in at least 2 of CSEM's key markets 
  • In-depth knowledge in at least one of CSEM’s research priorities (digital technologies, precision manufacturing, sustainable energy)
  • Proven ability to exert influence in a cross-functional role
  • Practical experience of innovation project management
  • Familiar with academic environment and project submission (EU, Innosuisse)
  • Ability to capture unexpected opportunities and translate them into business
  • At ease writing well-structured reports and memos
