Our “AI for Life Sciences” group, based in Allschwil, Switzerland is looking for a Senior Computational Biologist or Bioinformatician.

Your mission

The group AI for Life Sciences complements CSEM´s technology portfolio and existing activities in cell microsystems, biomonitoring and lab automation. The group AI for Life Sciences focusses on data analysis and development of related tools to understand and contextualize results from omics and phenotypic experiments, correlations with clinical data points and molecular signature readouts stemming from custom sensors and instruments.

As a Senior Computational Biologist or Bioinformatician, you are responsible for developing innovative algorithms and frameworks to solve our customers’ challenges, lead research and development projects and support the group leader in the acquisition of projects. Through your creative ideas, you further support the definition of the technology roadmap.

 

Your responsabilities 

• Application of state-of-the-art bioinformatics and biostatistical methodology to molecular and clinical data
• Development of custom/novel machine learning algorithms
• Build-up and establish data processing and machine learning toolchains
• Exploration and visualization of different types of omics data
• Contribute to project acquisition (offers to clients, Innosuisse or EU proposals)
• Collaborate with internal and external interdisciplinary teams
• Manage industrial and research projects (resources, goals, issues, budget)
• Develop and maintain good relationships with our partners and customers on national and international level
• Provide functional support and guidance to colleagues both inside or outside the group
• Proactively propose game changing ideas and develop successful new technology platforms

 

Your profile

Know-how


  • Master or PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, biostatistics or related field with a strong interest in machine and deep learning with 3+ years of job experience preferably in industry.
  • Experience in applying computational methods for drug development and/or biotech and/or personalized medicine.
  • Excellent knowledge of computational methods for the analysis of large sets of omics data in Python or R.
  • Excellent knowledge of ML frameworks.
  • Experience with the analysis, integration and interpretation of multi-omics data with a particular emphasis on metabolomics
  • Experience with the application of supervised and unsupervised machine learning methods to biomedical data
  • Excellent skills in data analysis, data visualization and statistical programming.
  • Familiarity with Linux/Unix command line and high-performance computing environments. Knowledge of data quality standards (e.g, FAIR) and programming best practices.
  • Experience in explainable AI is a plus
  • Experience in computational/AI-based approaches enabling the construction of biological knowledgebase or knowledge graph that supports biological interpretation/new hypothesis generation.
