CSEM is a public-private, non-profit research and technology pioneer. CSEM enables competitiveness through innovation by developing and transferring world-class technologies for the industrial sector.
Founded in 1984 and headquartered in Neuchâtel, CSEM is an internationally recognized innovation specialist with over 550 employees across six locations in Switzerland and more than 200 registered patents. We develop disruptive technologies with a high societal impact in the fields of precision manufacturing, digitalization, ultra-low-power electronics, optical elements, AI, and sustainable energy. We then transfer these innovations to industry partners in a variety of sectors, including renewable energy, healthcare, watchmaking, and aerospace, or encourage start-up creations.
As a public-private, non-profit organization, our mission is to support the innovation of Swiss companies and strengthen the economy through ongoing collaboration with leading universities, research institutes, and industrial partners.

Our innovations are driving the wider adoption of renewable energies, such as smart grid automation and storage, enabling increased energy savings and enhanced PV panel performance.
We work with sensors, lasers, robotics, and additive manufacturing (AM) to scale these technologies into solutions that push precision engineering to new heights, while minimizing cost and waste.
In the first year of our collaboration with CSEM we saw that it was a very special relationship because CSEM’s scientists are not only expert and flexible, they also understand that the processes and technologies they develop must be capable of being mass-produced.
Working with CSEM allowed us to develop and jointly validate a new diagnostic microarray/ sensor device designed for use in low-resource settings. To better promote point of care solutions for everyday life, synergistic partnerships between health experts and technology providers are both mutually beneficial and highly relevant.
CSEM's expertise in vision systems and artificial intelligence was crucial, as was its ability to steer such a complex project, involving partners with different expertise and in different locations during the COVID pandemic to such a successful conclusion.
The spirit of collaboration that CSEM has shown has been excellent and I would specifically like to commend the center.
CSEM’s state-of-the-art deep learning algorithms and creative and solution oriented approach enables us to further digitalize our maintenance activities and take them to the next level. Which is important to the long-term fulfilment of our promise to clients: "We make sure it rolls!"
It was a great pleasure and extremely rewarding to work with CSEM on the development of the first automated human skeletal muscle microphysiological lab system, which screens for the drug compounds that regulate muscle functions, such as force and fatigue.
The new Bluetooth chip we have developed with our long-standing partner CSEM has exceptional features specially designed for small connected objects and above all, of course, watches.
CSEM was the ideal partner for this project: expert in intelligent systems and algorithms, pragmatic and flexible when we had to change the data collection plan, and fast. This was our first project with CSEM—and it won’t be the last.
